History Repeats Itself! Are we on a brink of a World War?
In the previous two parts, we discussed about the history of crusades, world wars, present scenario & the importance of two cities named Istanbul & Jerusalem, through the lens of history & contemporary times. Now we will speculate as what could happen if the analogies are true.
Other parallels in time
After discussing the role of Jerusalem & Istanbul in crusades & world wars the question arises how are the other nations involved in these events. Paris was attacked on 13th November 2015, second time in the year by the Islamist. In this gruesome event 129 people were brutally murdered for which ISIS took the responsibility. Not only they celebrated the attacks but also threatened Europe, Russia & US for more brutal attacks. Only time will tell what happens next, but as an immediate retaliation France has started bombing an already zombified nation.
In the 1st crusade the main fighting force were the peasants led by the nobilities of France. After the recapture of Jerusalem in 1099 AD, the king of France & Pope authorized to form a special order or society made up of French dukes & knights for the protection of the pilgrims, in the history they are known as Templar of Knights. It is well known the role of France in the WW1. The seeds of WW2 were sown at the end of WW1 through the humiliating treaty of Versailles forced upon the Germans. This humiliation was paid back with interest by Hitler as France remained under Nazi occupation for four years out, while the war lasted six years in total.
During the times of crusades an Anglo-French King came & his name is written in the English history with Golden letters, his name was Richard the Lionheart. The rivalry of Richard I vs Saladin is legendary. In the world wars the single most prominent British figure was Winston Churchill. Not only was he the Prime Minister of Britain in WW2, but he was also commander of the Royal Navy in the WW1 & was involved in the Operation Room 40, which turned the tides of the war. What was Spain doing during all those times? Well, Spain was not a player during those events & still is not. It was pretty much occupied with the problems at home. Spain was Islamized by the Moors, had lost half of the Spain and were fighting from France. After Spain defeated the Moors, they started to make Spain 100% Christian again by fearful & torturous Inquisitions. They were not involved in the world wars because the civil wars in Spain had just ended. They were again rebuilding their nation. Spain this time will not participate too, they have a weak economy & almost no role in ME affairs. Also Spain is trying to control its own mess of Catalonia, who wants a different nation.
These are not the only parallels in the history & the contemporary events but there are more like the genocides of the Jews. In the crusades the Jewish genocide by Germans is known as The Rheinland Massacre, while in the world wars the Jewish genocide by Germans is known as the Holocaust. End of crusades & end of world wars brought time of peace & progress. The fall of Constantinople is mention as the death of civilization, but it turned out to be the dawn of two new civilizations. Thanks to the fall of Constantinople the artists, the philosophers, the thinkers, the merchants went to Europe and an age of new thinking began. It was called Renaissance-a new awakening, yes indeed it was a new awakening & as Dark Ages in the Europe ended. After the end of the world wars, there was a new awakening for the peace. The world became more liberal, more democratic, less violent, freer to express & with this science developed exponentially & propelled us to the age of information, while all this happened in Europe & other western countries the Middle East began to burn, both oil & itself. In short, we can pull out few more analogies.
The consequences & conclusion
Now the question arise what will happen or what can happen, and if there is a way to avoid this then what can be done. The world may go to any war individually but should not involve either Turkey or Israel else it would turn out to be a global conflict. And if there is a fight involving both Turkey & Israel they would be on the opposite ends, which will be a significant event in history. Recently Turkey & Israel broke their ice & began diplomatic talks, this would be good for the future. ISIS representing Islamic forces has declared its mission to reclaim Europe & Asia as a single Ummah, a Jihad. Meanwhile if many modern day nations turn up against each other depending on their interests & ideologies it will be called a world war. So it can be a crusade or a world war or both, whatever name we choose, but there will be immense death & destruction globally.
As I write this, in the same week Russia bombed 500-1000 ISIS oil tankers on the Turkish border and the very next day shot down a Russian Su-24 bringing down two pilots. Being a NATO member Turkey should ideally bomb the ISIS instead of the Kurds who are fighting the ISIS, but indirectly supporting the ISIS by opening their borders for them. So the position of Turkey is very important in this case as the stance of Israel is almost fixed with the west or allies. I think if Turkey comes in open support of ISIS in the next two months, then it would be escalated by the west and will invite many sanctions. From friends, Putin & Erdogan have turned to be bitter foes. If Pakistan along with the Turkey comes in support to ISIS under the pressure of radical forces at home the maybe Saudi Arabia may change sides. Then they would have military power + money power + oil power + nuclear power. The situation would be like a matchstick in the pool of oil. On the other hand Israel is fighting Hamas, and in support of Hamas ISIS had vowed to destroy Israel. Destruction of Israel is the most common sentiment running across the Muslim world. Support of Turkey to ISIS will bring Israel against Turkey.
The only option for the world is to be patient & hope that Turkey doesn’t go in support of ISIS and should help others to finish the ISIS. Still there is time, and we are looking through the window of history. In the end I would say that we should learn atleast something from the history, else history would have to repeat itself!
