How This Indian Couple Visited 41 Countries In 3 Years On A Limited Budget
Sujoy Mitra and his wife Sharmistha, both engineers by profession (Chemical and IT respectively) share a common passion for travel, and have managed to go around the world on a budget.
They’ve mastered the art of travel hacking with their ingenious ways and we can’t stop admiring them for their travel hacks.
From doing in-depth research to collecting air miles and hotel deals, the couple has left no stone unturned in getting the cheapest rates for their travel. In fact the couple also borrowed air miles from their friends and took up every available mode of transport in a specific destination.
Sujoy and Sharmishtha booked their flights 8-12 months in advance just to avail great discounts and also managed to book business class tickets from India to Switzerland for just Rs 3,100. Shocked? In their interview with a website they’ve shared how they spent more than 3000 hours on research, “We had a limitation of budget and a passion to travel so the only way we could make this happen was by creating insight, doing in-depth research and most importantly optimal utilization of hotel, credit card and airlines points.”
“We spent 9 lakhs per person for travelling across 40 countries- all inclusive of flight fare, visa charges, hotel stay in three to five-star hotels, transport, sightseeing and food.”
Their flight from New York (USA) to Buenos Aires (Argentina) cost them just 156 rupees. However, details on optimal usage of air miles takes a lot of time that need to be spent on solid research. “I would recommend travellers to plan and get the right credit cards. For instance, some cards give you a chance to earn maximum points that can be redeemed at hotels,” Sujoy explains. He adds further, “Make sure you always travel in airlines, which are a part of a consortium or alliance.”
The two are going to be away for Sujoy’s birthday in July 2016, and have already planned and booked for the trip. They are going to be on a South Asian tour covering places like Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam.
