Meet Taranjeet Singh, India’s Own Martian Who Will Take A One Way Mission To Mars
How many of you wanted to go to outer space during childhood after watching a Sci-fi Hollywood movie? A lot isnt it? Then when grew up slowly we understood, being an astronaut? not my cup of tea! but what if the world gives you a chance to be an astronaut once and for all?
Meet 30-year-old Taranjeet Singh Bhatia who is among the candidates waiting to blast off to Earth’s maiden manned Mars mission. Taranjeet was born in Indore and his family runs a small Hotel in Indore. He is an engineer with a degree in Electrical and Instrumentation engineering and in 2011 he joined UCF’s PhD programmer in computer science. Two years into his PHD he found the Mars One project.
Like thousands of others Taran also sent in his request to be one of the four astronauts to reach the red planet. His application included this video too:
The list was reduced to a 1000 hopefuls and then refined to the final hundred; where Taran was joined by three other Indians as possible astronauts.
He says that it’s not a suicide mission. i.e. it’s surely a journey he is making to leave the Earth forever but that doesn’t mean he will die in space. He is going over to Mars to create a human settlement where humans can survive for generations to come.
Whether he will be one of the final 4 or not that’s a question, but his decision to at least wanting to be one of the 4 astronauts for a one way mission to Red planet needs to be appreciated.
We hope he gets selected and makes our country proud.
