[CCTV Footage] South Delhi Boys Turned Heroes Rescue Uzbek Woman Under Attack
The incident happened on August 19 around 10 pm with an Uzbek woman who came to India three months ago on a business trip and was staying with a friend in Malviya Nagar. On the day of the incident, she was returning from a meeting and was walking inside the gated colony when Suraj, the miscreant started stalking her.
The woman was talking on her mobile phone when the accused came from behind and tried to snatch her phone. The CCTV footages show that when the woman resisted, he tried to slap her. He pushed her and then tried to throttle her.
As he fled, the group of boys playing in the park jumped the park walls and gave chase. Sarthak Sharma, a class XII student of LBS School R K Puram, was the first to jump. Arun Singh Rajput, a class XII student of St Paul’s School, Japneet, a second-year-student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and Aayush Joshi, a class XII student, quickly followed suit.
This group of teenagers who call themselves the Malviya Nagar Maniacs turned into heroes and helped land a mobile-snatcher behind bars.
The area RWA president, Sanjiv Rao, said that the woman was so scared that she went inside her house and switched off the lights. The friend with whom she was staying got a complaint registered on her behalf.
“She is scared and doesn’t want to step out alone after dusk. She has asked me to get her tickets booked for Uzbekistan. It was her first visit to India and I am embarrassed with whatever happened with her,” the friend said.
