Ato Boro? Shotti? Kolkata To Witness World’s Biggest Durga Idol This Festive Season
Star Cement along with Deshapriya Park Sarbojonin Durga Puja committee has revealed the idea behind the campaign Ato Boro? Shotti? which shrouded the city of Kolkata since two months.
Kolkatans are about to observe a grand and unique Puja this year that will grab eyeballs . World’s biggest Durga Idol is to be installed at Deshapriya Park in Kolkata this year.
62 Year old Mintu Pal, a Kumartuli artisan is leading the project working 24X7 with his 35 workers to create Deshapriya Park’s fibre glass idol. It is also reported that he was recently sent to China to experience the making of the tallest Gautam Buddha statue (250 feet). Pal is an expert in making fiber-glass idols and sends scores of them abroad every year.
According to a Puja committee member, the corporate sponsor Star Cement had already spent Rs 2 crore for the teaser ads. Though the organizers are reticent about the budget of this year’s puja, it will cross Rs 1 crore at least. “The idol alone would cost Rs 50 lakh,” he said.
Currently Star Cement is running a contest on their Facebook Page to put a number to the idol’s height and the one who gets it correct stands the chance to win attractive goodies.
